- everyone gets two secret cards. then five shared cards come out in the middle: three at once (the flop), one more (the turn) and a last one (the river).
- before the flop and after each new card, betting goes round the table: fold, check, call or raise. the two players left of the dealer button put in the blinds to get things going.
- your hand is the best five cards out of your two and the five in the middle. best hand at the showdown takes the pot, unless you bet so big everyone else folds first.
- the blinds go up as the hands go by. run out of chips and you're out. the last player with chips wins.
